Vivaldis Vetecto Plus Spot On is a topical ectoparasiticide for cats combining Fipronil (phenylpyrazole insecticide/acaricide) and (S)-Methoprene (insect growth regulator — IGR). Fipronil kills adult fleas, ticks, and lice on contact; (S)-Methoprene prevents re-infestation by disrupting the flea life cycle — rendering flea eggs non-viable and killing larvae before they develop into adults. A single monthly spot-on application provides sustained dual-action protection against adult ectoparasites and breaks the environmental flea cycle.

Drug Class

Mechanism of Action

• Fipronil — GABA-gated chloride channel blocker (adulticide): Fipronil binds to the GABA-gated Cl− channel pore in insect/arachnid CNS (RDL subunit), blocking Cl− influx → sustained neuronal depolarisation → uncontrolled muscle contractions, paralysis, and death of the ectoparasite; also blocks GluCl channels in invertebrate neuromuscular junctions; selectivity for insect vs. mammalian GABA-A receptors provides the safety margin in cats; Fipronil distributes via sebaceous glands across the entire body surface following spot-on application, providing whole-body coverage from a single neck application; kills adult fleas within 24 hours, ticks within 24–48 hours
• (S)-Methoprene — IGR / Juvenile Hormone Analogue (ovicide + larvicide): (S)-Methoprene mimics insect juvenile hormone (JH), preventing normal flea egg development and larval metamorphosis; shed via treated cat sebum and dander into the environment, it renders flea eggs non-viable and traps flea larvae in the larval stage before pupation; since approximately 95% of the household flea burden exists as pre-adult stages (eggs, larvae, pupae), (S)-Methoprene is essential for breaking the environmental flea cycle and preventing re-infestation
• Combined dual action: Fipronil eliminates existing adult fleas, ticks, and lice within 24–48 hours; (S)-Methoprene prevents environmental flea population regeneration; together they provide complete flea life-cycle interruption and sustained protection for up to 30 days

Indications

• Treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis, C. canis) in cats
• Treatment and prevention of tick infestations (Ixodes, Rhipicephalus, Haemaphysalis spp.) in cats
• Treatment of lice infestations (Felicola subrostratus) in cats
• Prevention of flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) in flea-sensitised cats
• Prevention of tick-borne diseases (Haemobartonellosis, tick-borne Rickettsiosis) in cats

Application & Dosage

• Apply entire contents of pipette to skin at the base of the skull / back of neck; part fur to ensure skin contact
• Apply once monthly; do not bathe or allow swimming for 48 hours post-application
• Confirm weight-appropriate pipette size with a veterinarian

Contraindications & Safety

• Do not use in rabbits — Fipronil is lethal to rabbits
• Do not use in kittens under 8 weeks of age
• Do not allow treated cats to be groomed or licked by other animals until dry
• Keep away from water bodies — Fipronil is toxic to aquatic invertebrates and fish
• Mild transient skin reactions at the application site are possible
• Store away from heat, flame, and direct sunlight
