Oriheal Opthovet P Prednisolone Ophthalmic Eye Drops for Dogs & Cats
Oriheal Opthovet P is a veterinary prescription ophthalmic solution containing Prednisolone (corticosteroid anti-inflammatory), manufactured by Oriheal Lifesciences. Unlike combination antibiotic-corticosteroid preparations (such as Opthovet GP or Opthovet DT), Opthovet P is an antibiotic-free corticosteroid eye drop — indicated for purely inflammatory ocular conditions where no concurrent bacterial infection is present or where the bacterial component has already been treated. Opthovet P is indicated for anterior uveitis, allergic conjunctivitis, immune-mediated keratitis, episcleritis, and post-surgical ocular inflammation management in dogs and cats.
Composition (to be confirmed from product label)
-
Prednisolone — concentration % (confirm from label) — corticosteroid anti-inflammatory
- Sterile ophthalmic vehicle base — q.s.
Mechanism of Action
- Prednisolone acts via glucocorticoid receptors to induce lipocortin synthesis — inhibits phospholipase A2, blocking release of arachidonic acid from cell membranes and suppressing synthesis of prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and cytokines mediating ocular inflammation
- Reduces conjunctival and corneal oedema, hyperaemia, vascular permeability, and cellular infiltration in inflammatory ocular conditions
- Inhibits T-lymphocyte-mediated immune responses — effective for immune-mediated ocular conditions (uveitis, pannus, episcleritis)
Therapeutic Class
- Veterinary ophthalmic corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory) prescription eye drops for dogs and cats — antibiotic-free steroid for purely inflammatory ocular conditions
Key Benefits
- Prednisolone — potent corticosteroid anti-inflammatory for effective control of ocular inflammation, redness, and oedema
- Antibiotic-free — targeted corticosteroid-only therapy for inflammatory conditions without bacterial component; avoids unnecessary antibiotic exposure
- Effective for immune-mediated and allergic ocular conditions — uveitis, allergic conjunctivitis, pannus (chronic superficial keratitis), episcleritis
- Post-surgical ocular inflammation management after ophthalmic procedures
Indications
- Anterior uveitis (inflammatory conditions of the uveal tract) in dogs and cats
- Allergic conjunctivitis and immune-mediated conjunctival inflammation
- Immune-mediated keratitis including pannus (chronic superficial keratitis — CSK) in German Shepherds and predisposed breeds
- Episcleritis and scleritis in dogs
- Post-surgical ocular inflammation following ophthalmic procedures
- Non-infectious inflammatory ocular conditions as determined by the veterinarian
Directions for Use
- Instil 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) as directed by a licensed veterinarian
- Frequency and duration determined by the prescribing veterinarian based on species, diagnosis, and clinical response
- Gently clean ocular discharge from around the eye before instillation if present
- Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye, eyelid, or any surface — replace cap immediately after use to maintain sterility
Safety Information
- Prescription medicine — for veterinary use only; administer under licensed veterinary supervision
-
Do not use if corneal ulceration is present or suspected — corticosteroid ophthalmic drops are contraindicated in corneal ulcers; confirm corneal integrity (fluorescein stain test) before initiating treatment
-
Do not use in active bacterial, viral, or fungal ocular infections without concurrent appropriate antimicrobial therapy — corticosteroids may mask or worsen infectious conditions
- Prolonged corticosteroid ophthalmic use may increase intraocular pressure (IOP) — monitor IOP on extended therapy, particularly in predisposed breeds
- Keep out of reach of children; store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight; discard after stated expiry
