Oriheal Opthovet M Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride 0.5% Ophthalmic Eye Drops for Dogs & Cats (5ml)
Oriheal Opthovet M is a veterinary prescription ophthalmic solution containing Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride 0.5% (fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic), manufactured by Oriheal Lifesciences. Moxifloxacin is a broad-spectrum bactericidal fluoroquinolone with activity against gram-positive, gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria — providing superior coverage compared to earlier-generation fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin). Opthovet M is indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, and other bacterial ocular surface infections in dogs and cats.
Composition
-
Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride — 0.5% w/v (fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic)
- Sterile isotonic ophthalmic vehicle base — q.s. to 5ml
Mechanism of Action
- Moxifloxacin inhibits two essential bacterial enzymes — DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV — simultaneously; this dual-target mechanism inhibits bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair, resulting in bactericidal activity
- Dual-target mechanism reduces the likelihood of resistance development compared to earlier fluoroquinolones that primarily target only one enzyme
- Broad-spectrum coverage: gram-positive organisms (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, coagulase-negative staphylococci), gram-negative organisms, and anaerobes — superior anaerobic coverage vs. ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin
Therapeutic Class
- Veterinary fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic ophthalmic prescription eye drops for dogs and cats — broad-spectrum bactericidal including anaerobes
Key Benefits
- Fourth-generation fluoroquinolone — broader spectrum than ciprofloxacin or ofloxacin; includes anaerobic and atypical bacterial coverage
- Dual-target mechanism (DNA gyrase + topoisomerase IV) — reduces resistance development risk
- Steroid-free antibiotic — suitable for use in bacterial infections with concurrent corneal ulceration (where corticosteroid-containing drops are contraindicated)
- 0.5% concentration — clinically effective for ocular surface bacterial infections
Indications
- Bacterial conjunctivitis in dogs and cats
- Bacterial keratitis and corneal surface infections
- Blepharitis — bacterial eyelid margin infections
- Broad-spectrum bacterial ocular surface infections including anaerobic involvement
- Post-surgical ocular antibiotic prophylaxis as directed by veterinarian
Directions for Use
- Instil 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) as directed by a licensed veterinarian
- Frequency and duration determined by the prescribing veterinarian based on species, diagnosis, and clinical response
- Gently clean ocular discharge from around the eye before instillation if present
- Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye, eyelid, or any surface — replace cap immediately after use to maintain sterility
Safety Information
- Prescription medicine — for veterinary use only; administer under licensed veterinary supervision
- Steroid-free — suitable for bacterial eye infections with concurrent corneal ulceration
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms or fungal superinfection — discontinue and seek veterinary advice if condition worsens or does not improve within expected timeframe
- Keep out of reach of children; store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight; discard after stated expiry
