Intas Synocur Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium Veterinary Injection for Dogs

Intas Synocur contains pentosan polysulfate sodium 100 mg/ml in a 2 ml presentation. It is a prescription veterinary injection for use in dogs under the direction of a veterinarian.

Composition

Each ml contains:

• Pentosan polysulfate sodium: 100 mg
• Benzyl alcohol IP: 0.01 ml, as preservative
• Water for injections IP: q.s.

Labelled Indications

The current product information lists use in dogs for:

• Osteoarthritis, including non-infectious arthrosis
• Osteochondrosis dissecans
• Traumatic joints
• Peri-articular inflammation
• Lameness
• Degenerative joint disease
• Non-infectious inflammatory joint disease

Administration and Veterinary Supervision

Use only according to the veterinarian's prescription and the physical product label. A veterinarian must determine whether the product is appropriate, the dose, injection route, injection schedule, and monitoring plan. Do not exceed the recommended dose or administer the injection without professional instruction.

Contraindications and Precautions

• Do not use for septic arthritis; appropriate antimicrobial treatment may be required
• Do not use in dogs with advanced liver or kidney impairment, evidence of infection, blood disorders, coagulation disorders, bleeding, or malignancy, especially haemangiosarcoma, unless the prescribing veterinarian specifically confirms otherwise
• Do not use during the peri-operative period or in skeletally immature dogs whose long-bone growth plates have not closed
• Pentosan polysulfate sodium has anticoagulant effects. Monitor for bleeding, bruising, pale gums, weakness, lethargy, vomiting blood, black stools, or other signs of blood loss
• Use caution in dogs with hepatic impairment or a history of pulmonary lacerations
• Monitoring such as packed cell volume and capillary refill time may be recommended by the veterinarian
• Safety during pregnancy and lactation has not been established in the current product information. Use is not recommended unless the prescribing veterinarian makes a specific assessment

Interactions

Do not use with aspirin, other NSAIDs, corticosteroids, heparin, or other anti-clotting agents unless the prescribing veterinarian gives clear instructions. Tell the veterinarian about every medicine or supplement the dog receives.

Adverse Reactions

Possible reactions listed in the product information include injection-site reaction, mild depression or lethargy, vomiting, diarrhoea, and loss of appetite. Bleeding-time changes may occur. Stop treatment and contact the veterinarian if an adverse reaction or increased bleeding is suspected.
