Drools DigestPet is a probiotic and prebiotic sachet for dogs and cats, formulated to restore the balance of gut flora, manage diarrhoea, support recovery from dehydration and weakness, and get digestion working properly again. A healthy gut runs on a stable population of beneficial bacteria, and that population is easily wrecked by a course of antibiotics, a sudden diet change, stress, travel, or an infection. Once it is disrupted, the opportunists move in and the result is loose stools, wind, poor appetite, and a pet that simply is not thriving. DigestPet supplies live beneficial organisms to recolonise the gut, along with the prebiotic fibre that feeds them and the zinc the gut lining needs to repair itself.

• Probiotic blend — 1.25 billion cells: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium longum, Saccharomyces boulardii
• Fructooligosaccharide (FOS) — 1500 mcg (prebiotic)
• Zinc Sulphate — 20 mg

What the Ingredients Do

• Lactobacillus acidophilus and L. rhamnosus — lactic acid producing bacteria that lower gut pH and compete with pathogenic organisms for space and nutrients on the intestinal wall, crowding them out through competitive exclusion
• Bifidobacterium longum — a major resident of the healthy large intestine, producing short-chain fatty acids that nourish the cells lining the colon and help firm up stools
• Saccharomyces boulardii — a probiotic yeast rather than a bacterium, which is the reason it matters here: being a yeast, it is unaffected by antibiotics and keeps working right through a course that would wipe out bacterial probiotics
• Fructooligosaccharide (FOS) — a prebiotic fibre that the pet cannot digest but the beneficial bacteria can, feeding the good population so it establishes rather than passing straight through
• Zinc Sulphate — supports repair of the intestinal lining and tightens the gut barrier, and zinc is lost in significant amounts during diarrhoea
