Drools ColloPet-Ag is a veterinary topical wound ointment that delivers nano crystalline silver in a collagen base, pairing sustained broad-spectrum antimicrobial cover with a matrix that supports the wound bed while it heals. Nano crystalline silver releases silver ions steadily at the wound surface rather than in a single burst, giving prolonged antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi, and yeasts, including many antibiotic-resistant strains, while collagen provides a scaffold that supports granulation tissue formation and epithelial migration across the wound. ColloPet-Ag is used on open wounds, burns, ulcers, surgical sites, and infected or slow-healing skin lesions in dogs and cats. Supplied in a 15g tube.

Composition & Mechanism of Action

• Nano Crystalline Silver — broad-spectrum topical antimicrobial. Silver in nanocrystalline form presents a very large surface area relative to its mass, allowing a sustained release of biologically active silver ions (Ag+) into the wound exudate over an extended period rather than a short initial spike. Silver ions are bactericidal through several simultaneous routes: they bind to thiol (sulfhydryl) groups on bacterial enzymes and structural proteins, denaturing them and disabling essential metabolic pathways; they disrupt the bacterial cell wall and cytoplasmic membrane, causing leakage of intracellular contents; they interfere with the bacterial respiratory electron transport chain; and they bind bacterial DNA, preventing replication. Because silver attacks multiple targets at once rather than one enzyme or receptor, bacterial resistance to silver develops far less readily than resistance to conventional antibiotics, and silver retains activity against many resistant organisms. The spectrum covers Gram-positive bacteria including Staphylococcus species, Gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli, and fungi and yeasts including Candida species.
• Collagen Base — structural wound-healing matrix. Collagen is the principal structural protein of the dermis, and a collagen base provides a three-dimensional scaffold onto which fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and new blood vessels can migrate. It supports granulation tissue formation, attracts the cells involved in repair to the wound bed, helps maintain a moist wound healing environment, and absorbs exudate from weeping wounds. Collagen also acts as a sacrificial substrate for the excess matrix metalloproteinases found in chronic, non-healing wounds, protecting the animal's own newly formed tissue from degradation.

Directions for Use

• For external topical use only
• Clean and gently dry the wound, and clip the surrounding hair coat where necessary, before application
• Apply a thin, even layer of ointment over the wound surface and a small margin of surrounding skin
• Cover with a dressing where appropriate, or prevent licking with an Elizabethan collar
• Apply once or twice daily, or at the frequency and for the duration directed by your veterinarian
• Continue the full course as advised, even once the wound appears to be closing
