Drools CollaPet-G is a novel veterinary wound management gel that combines three complementary elements in one dressing: Gentamicin, a potent aminoglycoside antibiotic with strong activity against the Gram-negative organisms that complicate contaminated wounds; a collagen base that scaffolds new tissue growth; and nano silver for sustained broad-spectrum antimicrobial cover. Where a plain antibiotic cream only fights infection, CollaPet-G treats the infection while actively supporting the wound bed, which makes it well suited to infected, contaminated, and slow-healing wounds in dogs and cats. Supplied as a 15g tube for external application.

Composition & Mechanism of Action

• Gentamicin — aminoglycoside antibiotic, bactericidal. Gentamicin is actively transported across the bacterial cell membrane and binds irreversibly to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome. This binding causes misreading of the messenger RNA template, so the bacterium assembles faulty, non-functional proteins, and it also blocks the translocation step of protein synthesis altogether. The defective proteins are inserted into the bacterial cell membrane, damaging its integrity and allowing more antibiotic to flood in, which is why aminoglycosides kill bacteria outright rather than merely halting their growth. The spectrum is strongest against Gram-negative organisms including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Proteus, Klebsiella, and Enterobacter species, with useful activity against Staphylococcus species. Pseudomonas cover matters particularly in moist, contaminated, and chronic wounds where it is a frequent and stubborn coloniser.
• Collagen Base — structural wound-healing matrix. Collagen is the main structural protein of the dermis, and applying it to a wound provides a three-dimensional scaffold onto which fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and new capillaries migrate. It promotes granulation tissue formation, helps maintain the moist environment that epithelial cells need to travel across the wound surface, and absorbs excess exudate. Collagen additionally acts as a sacrificial substrate for the excess matrix metalloproteinases present in chronic non-healing wounds, soaking up enzymes that would otherwise degrade the animal's own newly formed tissue.
• Nano Silver — sustained broad-spectrum antimicrobial. The nanoscale form presents a very large surface area, releasing silver ions (Ag+) steadily into the wound rather than in a single burst. Silver ions bind thiol groups on bacterial enzymes and structural proteins, disrupt the cell wall and membrane, interfere with the respiratory electron transport chain, and bind bacterial DNA to block replication. Because silver strikes several targets simultaneously, resistance develops far less readily than to conventional antibiotics, and the cover extends across bacteria, fungi, and yeasts. Pairing nano silver with Gentamicin broadens the antimicrobial net and helps protect the antibiotic's usefulness.

Directions for Use

• For external topical use only
• Clean and gently dry the wound, clipping surrounding hair where necessary, before application
• Apply a thin, even layer of gel over the wound surface and a small margin of surrounding skin
• Cover with a dressing where appropriate, or prevent licking with an Elizabethan collar
• Apply at the frequency and for the duration directed by your veterinarian
• Complete the full prescribed course even once the wound appears to be closing
