Vivaldis EasyPill L-Lysine Soft Chews for Cats (30 Soft Chews)
Vivaldis EasyPill L-Lysine is a palatable soft chew L-Lysine amino acid supplement for cats, formulated to support feline respiratory health and immune function — particularly in cats affected by or at risk of Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 (FHV-1) infection and associated upper respiratory tract disease. Each soft chew delivers L-Lysine in a highly palatable, easy-to-administer format, making daily supplementation stress-free for both cats and their owners. Suitable for cats of all breeds and ages including kittens, adults, and senior cats.
Note: Confirm the exact L-Lysine dose per chew from the product label and update accordingly.
Key Ingredient & Mechanism
-
L-Lysine (Lysine, an essential amino acid): L-Lysine is an essential amino acid — cats, as obligate carnivores, cannot synthesise Lysine de novo and must obtain it from diet; L-Lysine supplementation in cats is primarily indicated for management of Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 (FHV-1, Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus) — the most common cause of feline upper respiratory tract disease (sneezing, nasal discharge, conjunctivitis, ocular discharge, corneal ulcers, and rhinotracheitis); mechanism of L-Lysine antiviral activity against FHV-1: (1) arginine antagonism — FHV-1 (like all herpesviruses) is an obligate intracellular pathogen that requires the amino acid arginine for viral replication; FHV-1 uses arginine in multiple steps of its replication cycle including nucleocapsid protein synthesis and viral DNA packaging; L-Lysine and arginine share the same intestinal epithelial transporter (CAT-1, cationic amino acid transporter SLC7A1/y⁺ transport system) for absorption, and the same cellular uptake transporter for entry into host cells; supplemental L-Lysine competitively inhibits arginine uptake at both the intestinal level (reducing arginine absorption from diet) and at the cellular level (reducing intracellular arginine availability for FHV-1 replication); (2) reduced viral replication — intracellular arginine depletion impairs FHV-1 nucleocapsid assembly, reduces viral particle production, and limits virus shedding; this reduces the severity and frequency of FHV-1 clinical episodes (‘flare-ups’) triggered by stress, immunosuppression, or corticosteroid administration; (3) immune support — L-Lysine supports lymphocyte proliferation and immunoglobulin synthesis; adequate Lysine availability is required for normal T-cell and B-cell function; L-Lysine also plays a structural role in collagen synthesis (Lysyl hydroxylase hydroxylates Lysine residues in procollagen) and supports the integrity of respiratory mucosal epithelium; (4) clinical evidence — L-Lysine supplementation in FHV-1-positive cats has been shown to reduce the severity of conjunctivitis, ocular discharge, and nasal discharge, and to reduce viral shedding in controlled studies; supplementation is recommended as an adjunct to antiviral therapy (famciclovir) and environmental management for FHV-1 management in cats; (5) note on arginine balance — cats have an absolute dietary requirement for arginine (unlike most other species, cats have near-absent pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthase activity making arginine synthesis impossible — arginine deficiency in cats causes rapid hyperammonaemia and death); L-Lysine supplementation at recommended doses for FHV-1 management is designed to competitively reduce arginine uptake to the virus without causing clinically significant arginine deficiency in the cat at appropriate supplemental doses; avoid extremely high doses of L-Lysine without veterinary guidance
Therapeutic Class
- Veterinary amino acid nutritional supplement — L-Lysine — feline herpesvirus FHV-1 management, respiratory health, immune support — cats all breeds and ages
Indications
- Feline Herpesvirus Type 1 (FHV-1) management — reduction of clinical signs including sneezing, nasal discharge, conjunctivitis, ocular discharge, and corneal ulceration
- Upper respiratory tract infection (URI) support in cats
- Prevention of FHV-1 recurrence during stress, illness, boarding, or rehoming events
- Immune support for cats at risk of respiratory infections
- Daily wellness and respiratory maintenance for FHV-1-positive or FHV-1-exposed cats
- Adjunct to antiviral therapy (famciclovir) for FHV-1 management under veterinary supervision
Dosage & Administration
- Administer as directed by a veterinarian; confirm dose per chew from product label
- Offer directly as a treat or crumble over food; soft chew format accepted by most cats voluntarily
- 30 soft chews per pack
Safety Information
- L-Lysine is generally very well tolerated in cats at supplemental doses; GI upset is uncommon
- Do not use extremely high doses without veterinary guidance — very high Lysine doses may theoretically reduce arginine availability; use at label-recommended doses
- Store in a cool, dry place; keep container tightly sealed after use
- Keep out of reach of children
