Prescription Required — For external veterinary use on dogs only. Do NOT use on cats — Cypermethrin is highly toxic to cats and can cause fatal neurological toxicity even with minimal skin contact or grooming exposure. Avoid contact with eyes, ears, and mucous membranes. Do not use on puppies under 3 months of age. Wear gloves when bathing treated animals. Use Elizabethan collar to prevent licking during and after application. Keep out of reach of children. Toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates — do not discharge rinse water into drains, ponds, or watercourses.
Vetoquinol Reltix Cypermethrin 1% W/V Anti-Tick, Anti-Flea & Anti-Lice Medicated Ectoparasiticide Shampoo for Dogs (200ml)
Vetoquinol Reltix is a veterinary prescription medicated ectoparasiticide shampoo for dogs, manufactured by Vetoquinol India Animal Health. Active ingredient: Cypermethrin 1% W/V, a synthetic Type II pyrethroid with potent contact insecticidal and acaricidal activity. Effective against ticks (Rhipicephalus, Haemaphysalis, Ixodes spp.), fleas (Ctenocephalides felis, C. canis), lice (Trichodectes canis, Linognathus setosus), mites, and flies on dogs. Cypermethrin acts by disrupting voltage-gated sodium channel inactivation in arthropod nerve cell membranes, causing prolonged depolarisation, paralysis, and death of ectoparasites on contact.
Composition
-
Cypermethrin: 1% W/V — synthetic Type II pyrethroid; potent contact ectoparasiticide with insecticidal and acaricidal activity; kills ticks, fleas, lice, mites, and flies on contact
- Shampoo base: q.s. — confirm surfactant and excipient composition from Vetoquinol Reltix product label
Mechanism of Action
- Cypermethrin binds to and prolongs the open state of voltage-gated sodium channels in arthropod nerve cell axons, causing sustained membrane depolarisation, repetitive nerve firing, paralysis, and death of ectoparasites on contact
- Type II pyrethroid — produces sustained sodium channel opening (tau-current); more potent acaricidal action than Type I pyrethroids at equivalent concentrations
- Contact ectoparasiticide — kills ectoparasites on contact with treated coat and skin; does not provide systemic or residual activity beyond the treated wash period
Indications
- Tick infestation in dogs — Rhipicephalus sanguineus (brown dog tick), Haemaphysalis spp., Ixodes spp., and other hard ticks
- Flea infestation in dogs — Ctenocephalides felis (cat flea) and Ctenocephalides canis (dog flea)
- Lice infestation in dogs — Trichodectes canis (chewing louse) and Linognathus setosus (sucking louse)
- Mite infestation (surface mites) in dogs
- Fly control on dogs
Directions for Use
- Wear gloves before and during application
- Wet the dog's coat thoroughly with lukewarm water
- Apply a sufficient amount of Reltix shampoo and massage into the coat and skin to produce a uniform lather; ensure good coverage of all body surfaces including head (avoid eyes and ears), neck, trunk, limbs, and tail
- Leave on for 5–10 minutes to ensure adequate contact time with ectoparasites
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water; ensure all shampoo residue is removed
- Use Elizabethan collar to prevent licking during and after application until coat is fully dry
- Repeat as directed by a licensed veterinarian; typically weekly for 3–4 weeks for active infestation, then monthly for prevention
- Treat the environment (bedding, kennel) concurrently for effective flea and tick control; shampoo treatment alone does not eliminate environmental stages
Safety Information
-
Dogs only — do NOT use on cats: Cypermethrin is highly toxic to cats; even minimal skin contact, grooming of a treated dog, or inhalation of spray/vapour can cause fatal pyrethroid toxicity in cats (hypersalivation, muscle tremors, ataxia, seizures, hypothermia, death); keep cats away from treated dogs until the coat is fully dry and rinsed
- Do not use on puppies under 3 months of age
- Avoid contact with eyes, ears, and mucous membranes; flush immediately with copious clean water if contact occurs
- Wear gloves when bathing treated animals; wash hands thoroughly after use
- Do not allow the dog to lick the shampoo; use Elizabethan collar during and after application until dry
- Toxic to fish, aquatic invertebrates, and bees; do not discharge rinse water into drains, ponds, streams, or watercourses
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight; keep out of reach of children and away from food, drink, and animal feeding areas
Target Species
- Dogs only — not for use in cats, rabbits, birds, or other species
