Oriheal Petopenem is a veterinary prescription injectable antibiotic containing Meropenem, a carbapenem-class beta-lactam antibiotic, manufactured by Oriheal Lifesciences. Meropenem is one of the broadest-spectrum antibiotics available in veterinary medicine, providing activity against a wide range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria, including multidrug-resistant (MDR) organisms such as extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter spp. It is reserved for the treatment of severe, life-threatening, or multidrug-resistant bacterial infections in dogs and cats where first- and second-line antibiotics have failed or are contraindicated based on culture and sensitivity results. Mechanism of Action
- Meropenem inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking and causing rapid bacterial cell lysis and death
- Carbapenem ring structure confers resistance to hydrolysis by most beta-lactamases, including ESBLs and AmpC beta-lactamases — effective where other beta-lactams fail

Directions for Use
- Administer by intravenous (IV) infusion or intramuscular (IM) injection as directed by a licensed veterinarian
- Reconstitute with sterile water for injection or 0.9% sodium chloride as per label instructions; administer immediately after reconstitution
- Dosage based on body weight, infection severity, and culture/sensitivity results — refer to veterinary prescription (typical veterinary dose: 8.5–24 mg/kg IV/IM every 8–12 hours; confirm from prescription)
- Complete the full prescribed antibiotic course; do not discontinue early even if clinical signs resolve
- Use only based on confirmed culture and sensitivity results — empirical carbapenem use without microbiological justification is not recommended (antibiotic stewardship)
