PRESCRIPTION VETERINARY MEDICINE — For veterinary use only. Must be prescribed and dispensed by or under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian. Complete the full prescribed course to prevent antimicrobial resistance and treatment failure. Do not use in pregnant animals — Doxycycline is a tetracycline-class antibiotic that can cause fetal skeletal abnormalities and tooth discolouration in developing young. Do not use in animals under 6 months of age due to risk of permanent tooth and bone discolouration. Administer with food or water to reduce risk of oesophageal ulceration. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Oriheal Paladox-LB Tablets for Dogs & Cats (100mg | 200mg | 300mg)
Oriheal Paladox-LB is a prescription veterinary combination antibiotic tablet for dogs and cats, containing Doxycycline (a second-generation tetracycline-class broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic) combined with Lactic Acid Bacillus (a veterinary probiotic). The dual-action formulation combines the broad-spectrum antibacterial activity of Doxycycline with the gut flora-protective activity of Lactic Acid Bacillus, reducing antibiotic-associated gastrointestinal disturbance during treatment. Available in 100mg, 200mg, and 300mg tablet strengths for weight-based dosing across small, medium, and large breed dogs and cats. Administer strictly as directed by a licensed veterinarian.
Composition
-
Doxycycline Hyclate or Monohydrate — 100mg, 200mg, or 300mg per tablet (confirm salt form from Oriheal Paladox-LB product label): Second-generation tetracycline-class broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic; mechanism of action — reversibly binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, blocking aminoacyl-tRNA binding to the mRNA-ribosome complex and thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis; bacteriostatic activity (inhibits bacterial growth and replication, relying on host immune clearance to eliminate bacteria); spectrum — active against a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, atypical organisms (Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Rickettsia), spirochaetes (Borrelia burgdorferi/Lyme disease), and intracellular obligate pathogens (Ehrlichia canis, Anaplasma phagocytophilum); superior tissue penetration compared to first-generation tetracyclines; longer half-life allowing once or twice daily dosing; Doxycycline monohydrate formulations cause less oesophageal irritation than hyclate formulations in cats (confirm salt form from label)
-
Lactic Acid Bacillus (Lactobacillus sporogenes) — confirm CFU per tablet from product label: Spore-forming probiotic bacterium; produces lactic acid in the GI tract, creating an acidic intestinal environment that inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria and supports the re-establishment of normal commensal gut flora disrupted by Doxycycline therapy; reduces antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, GI dysbiosis, and digestive disturbance during antibiotic treatment courses
- Tablet excipients — confirm from Oriheal Paladox-LB product label
Therapeutic Class
- Prescription veterinary tetracycline-class broad-spectrum antibiotic with probiotic combination tablet for dogs and cats — bacterial infections, tick-borne disease, respiratory, urinary tract, skin, and gastrointestinal infection treatment
Indications
- Respiratory tract infections — bacterial pneumonia, tracheobronchitis (kennel cough), Mycoplasma pneumonia, Bordetella bronchiseptica (in combination), and other Doxycycline-susceptible respiratory pathogens in dogs and cats
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs) — bacterial cystitis and urinary tract infections caused by Doxycycline-susceptible organisms
- Skin and soft tissue infections — pyoderma, wound infections, cellulitis, and other bacterial skin infections caused by susceptible organisms
- Gastrointestinal infections — bacterial gastroenteritis and GI infections caused by Doxycycline-susceptible organisms
- Tick-borne diseases — Ehrlichia canis (canine ehrlichiosis/tick fever), Anaplasma phagocytophilum (anaplasmosis), Rickettsia spp. (Rocky Mountain spotted fever), Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme disease/borreliosis); Doxycycline is the veterinary drug of choice for these intracellular tick-borne bacterial pathogens
- Brucellosis (Brucella canis) — adjunctive Doxycycline therapy in combination protocol as directed by veterinarian
- Leptospirosis — Doxycycline used for treatment and prophylaxis of leptospiral infection in dogs (confirm protocol with veterinarian)
- Gut flora maintenance during antibiotic therapy — Lactic Acid Bacillus component supports intestinal microbiome health and reduces antibiotic-associated GI side effects during Doxycycline treatment
Dosage
- Administer strictly as directed by a licensed veterinarian — this is a prescription veterinary medicine
- Standard veterinary dosing: Doxycycline 5–10mg/kg once daily or 2.5–5mg/kg twice daily orally; tick-borne disease (Ehrlichia canis) typically treated at 10mg/kg once daily for 28 days — confirm indication-specific dose, dosing interval, and treatment duration from Oriheal Paladox-LB product label or veterinary prescription
- The 100mg tablet is suitable for small to medium dogs and cats; 200mg for medium dogs; 300mg for large breed dogs — confirm weight-based strength selection with veterinarian
- Administer orally with food or a full glass of water; do not allow the animal to lie down immediately after administration — Doxycycline can cause oesophageal ulceration if tablets lodge in the oesophagus; follow with water or a small amount of food to ensure the tablet reaches the stomach
- Complete the full prescribed course even if clinical improvement is observed early — stopping antibiotic therapy early risks treatment failure and antimicrobial resistance
Contraindications
- Do not use in pregnant animals — Doxycycline crosses the placenta and can cause fetal skeletal abnormalities, retarded bone growth, and permanent tooth discolouration in developing young
- Do not use in lactating animals — Doxycycline is excreted in milk and can affect nursing young
- Do not use in animals under 6 months of age — Doxycycline binds to calcium in developing teeth and bones, causing permanent yellow-grey tooth discolouration and potential bone growth effects
- Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to Doxycycline, other tetracyclines, or any tablet excipient
- Use with caution in animals with hepatic disease — Doxycycline is metabolised and excreted via the biliary system; hepatic impairment may increase drug exposure and risk of hepatotoxicity
- Use with caution in animals with oesophageal disorders or swallowing difficulties — increased oesophageal ulceration risk
Drug Interactions
-
Antacids, dairy products, iron supplements, calcium, magnesium, aluminium salts: Chelate Doxycycline in the GI tract, significantly reducing oral absorption; administer Doxycycline at least 2 hours before or after antacid or mineral supplement administration
-
Barbiturates (phenobarbital), rifampicin: Hepatic enzyme inducers — increase Doxycycline metabolism and reduce plasma levels; may require dose adjustment
-
Penicillin-class antibiotics (amoxicillin, ampicillin): Bacteriostatic antibiotics (Doxycycline) can antagonise bactericidal antibiotics (penicillins) — avoid concurrent use unless specifically directed by veterinarian
-
Anticoagulants (warfarin): Doxycycline may potentiate anticoagulant effect; monitor coagulation if concurrent use is necessary
-
Cyclosporin: Minor interaction; monitor for increased GI side effects
Safety Information
- Prescription veterinary medicine — must be prescribed and dispensed by or under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian
- Oesophageal ulceration risk: always administer Doxycycline with food or water, particularly in cats — oesophageal stricture from Doxycycline-induced ulceration is a well-documented serious adverse effect in cats; follow each dose with a water bolus (5ml syringe of water) or food in cats
- Photosensitivity: Doxycycline can cause photosensitisation in some animals — limit sun exposure during treatment
- Hepatotoxicity: rare but possible with prolonged use — monitor liver enzymes (ALT, ALP) in animals on extended Doxycycline courses
- Antimicrobial resistance: complete the full prescribed course; do not use leftover antibiotics without veterinary guidance; culture and sensitivity testing is recommended where possible to confirm Doxycycline susceptibility
- Not for human use — keep out of reach of children
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture; protect from light; keep in original packaging
