Oriheal Enerfoxin is a veterinary prescription antibiotic containing Enrofloxacin 200mg, a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic, manufactured by Oriheal Lifesciences. Enrofloxacin is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic active against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, indicated for bacterial infections of the skin, urinary tract, respiratory tract, ears, soft tissues, and gastrointestinal tract in dogs and cats. Formulated as palatable flavoured tablets for easy oral administration. WHO Critically Important Antimicrobial (CIA) — for use with confirmed bacterial diagnosis and veterinary prescription.

Composition (per tablet)

• Enrofloxacin IP — 200mg per tablet
• Flavoured tablet base — confirm excipients from label if allergy history is relevant

Mechanism of Action

• Enrofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair — leading to rapid bacterial cell death (bactericidal action)
• Active against a broad spectrum of Gram-negative organisms (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pasteurella spp.) and Gram-positive organisms (Staphylococcus intermedius, Staphylococcus aureus)
• Time-concentration dependent pharmacodynamics — efficacy correlates with peak plasma concentration relative to MIC

Therapeutic Class

Indications

• Skin infections — wounds, abscesses, hot spots, and pyoderma caused by susceptible bacteria
• Soft tissue infections — infections of muscles, tendons, and connective tissue
• Urinary tract infections (UTI) — cystitis and pyelonephritis caused by susceptible Gram-negative organisms (particularly E. coli)
• Respiratory tract infections — pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, rhinitis, and tonsillitis
• Ear infections — otitis externa and otitis media caused by susceptible bacteria
• Gastrointestinal infections — bacterial diarrhoea and enteritis caused by susceptible organisms

Directions for Use

• Administer orally as directed by a licensed veterinarian — once or twice daily depending on infection type and severity
• Typical veterinary dose: 5–20 mg/kg once daily (dogs); 5 mg/kg once daily (cats — do not exceed; see Safety Information); confirm exact dose from prescription
• Tablets can be given directly or hidden in a small amount of food to aid acceptance
• Preferably administer on an empty stomach for optimal absorption; if GI upset occurs, give with a small amount of food
• Complete the full prescribed course even if clinical signs resolve — do not discontinue early to avoid resistance development
• Do not administer with antacids, sucralfate, or dairy products containing divalent cations (calcium, magnesium, aluminium) — chelation significantly reduces Enrofloxacin absorption

Safety Information

• Prescription medicine — for veterinary use only; use under licensed veterinary supervision with confirmed bacterial diagnosis
• WHO Critically Important Antimicrobial (CIA) — fluoroquinolones are a critically important antibiotic class; use only with microbiological justification and veterinary prescription; antibiotic stewardship is mandatory
• CATS — Retinal Degeneration Risk: Enrofloxacin at doses exceeding 5 mg/kg/day in cats has been associated with acute retinal degeneration and blindness. Do not exceed 5 mg/kg/day in cats under any circumstances. Use 200mg tablets in cats only if weight-appropriate dosing can be accurately achieved; consider lower-strength formulations for small cats. Monitor for visual disturbances (photophobia, mydriasis, reduced menace response) and discontinue immediately if observed
• Young growing animals — Cartilage Toxicity: Enrofloxacin is contraindicated in rapidly growing puppies and kittens — fluoroquinolones cause erosion of articular cartilage in weight-bearing joints of immature animals. Do not use in large-breed puppies under 12–18 months, medium-breed puppies under 8 months, small-breed puppies under 8 months, or kittens under 8 weeks without explicit veterinary justification
• Seizures and CNS effects — use with caution in animals with known or suspected seizure disorders; fluoroquinolones lower seizure threshold
• Crystalluria — ensure adequate hydration during therapy, especially in animals with urinary tract infections or renal compromise
• Drug interactions: avoid concurrent use with theophylline (elevated theophylline levels), NSAIDs (increased CNS toxicity risk), antacids, sucralfate, iron, zinc, or dairy products (reduced absorption)
• Keep out of reach of children; store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
