PRESCRIPTION VETERINARY NSAID — dispensed and dosed only by a licensed veterinarian. Meloxicam has a narrow safety margin and the correct dose depends entirely on species, body weight, and the individual animal, so no dose is published here: follow your veterinarian's prescription exactly and use an accurate scale, never a guess. Cats are not small dogs. The safe feline dose is a small fraction of the canine dose, and repeated dosing at canine levels is a recognised cause of acute kidney failure and death in cats. A 2.5mg tablet is far larger than a typical cat dose, so this presentation should not be given to a cat unless a veterinarian has specifically calculated and directed it. Never give human painkillers to pets. Paracetamol is fatal to cats, and ibuprofen and aspirin cause ulcers and kidney damage in both species. Do not give meloxicam alongside any other NSAID or any corticosteroid — combining them dramatically raises the risk of stomach ulceration and perforation, and your veterinarian will require a washout period when switching. Do not use in animals that are dehydrated, in shock, or have low blood pressure, nor in those with kidney or liver disease, stomach ulcers, or bleeding disorders, and consult your veterinarian before use in pregnant, lactating, or very young animals. Always give with or straight after food. Stop the tablets and contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet vomits, has diarrhoea or black tarry stools, goes off its food, becomes dull or weak, drinks or urinates noticeably more, or develops yellowing of the eyes or gums. Long-term use requires periodic blood tests for kidney and liver function. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Melopet is a prescription veterinary NSAID containing meloxicam, used to control pain, inflammation, and fever in dogs. Meloxicam is one of the mainstays of canine pain management, particularly for osteoarthritis, where a dog that has quietly stopped climbing stairs or greeting you at the door is often in more discomfort than its owner realises. Because it is a preferential COX-2 inhibitor, it targets the enzyme driving inflammation while sparing more of the COX-1 activity that protects the stomach lining and kidney blood flow, which is what makes it suitable for longer courses under veterinary supervision. Supplied as flavoured mouth-melt tablets in a pack of 10, which makes dosing considerably easier than wrestling a coated tablet down a sore dog.
