Perform a heartworm antigen and microfilaria test before starting Ivermectin in dogs not previously on heartworm prevention — treating a dog with a high microfilarial burden can trigger a severe anaphylactoid reaction from rapid microfilarial kill. Ivermectin is contraindicated in Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs, Australian Shepherds, Old English Sheepdogs, Border Collies, Long-haired Whippets, and other breeds carrying the MDR1 (ABCB1-1Δ) gene defect, in which reduced P-glycoprotein function allows Ivermectin to cross the blood-brain barrier and cause severe neurotoxicity including ataxia, mydriasis, tremors, coma, and death. Do not use in puppies under 6 weeks of age. Do not give at dog doses to cats — cats are highly sensitive to Ivermectin toxicity. Safety in pregnant and lactating bitches should be confirmed with a veterinarian. Prescription veterinary medicine — must be used under veterinary supervision. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, protected from direct sunlight.
Intas Neomec Ivermectin 10mg Antiparasitic Tablet for Dogs | 1 Strip of 10 Tablets
Intas Neomec is a prescription veterinary endectocide tablet containing Ivermectin 10mg, a broad-spectrum macrocyclic lactone that controls both internal parasites (heartworm microfilariae, roundworms, hookworms) and external parasites (sarcoptic and demodectic mange mites, lice) in dogs from a single oral tablet. Because Neomec covers endoparasites and ectoparasites together, it is widely used in Indian veterinary practice for mange and mixed-parasite cases as well as routine heartworm prophylaxis programmes. Dosing is strictly body-weight based and must be prescribed by a licensed veterinarian.
Active Ingredient & Mechanism of Action
-
Ivermectin 10mg per tablet — macrocyclic lactone (avermectin class) endectoparasiticide. Ivermectin binds with high affinity to glutamate-gated chloride channels (GluCl) found exclusively in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells, acting as a positive allosteric modulator that holds the channel open. The resulting sustained influx of chloride ions hyperpolarises the parasite's neuronal and pharyngeal muscle membranes, causing flaccid paralysis of the pharynx and body wall, cessation of feeding, and death of the parasite. Ivermectin also potentiates GABA-gated chloride channels at higher concentrations. Mammals are protected by two factors: GluCl channels are absent in vertebrates, and P-glycoprotein at the blood-brain barrier actively pumps Ivermectin out of the central nervous system — which is precisely why MDR1-mutant breeds with defective P-glycoprotein are at high risk of neurotoxicity.
Therapeutic Class
- Prescription veterinary endectocide — broad-spectrum macrocyclic lactone antiparasitic tablet for dogs
Key Benefits
- Single tablet covers both internal and external parasites
- Effective for heartworm prevention and microfilariae clearance
- Treats roundworms, hookworms, and other intestinal parasites
- Widely used for sarcoptic and demodectic mange protocols
- Controls ectoparasites including mites and lice
- Oral tablet allows accurate body-weight based dosing
Indications
- Heartworm disease prevention and microfilariae elimination (Dirofilaria immitis)
- Intestinal parasites: roundworms (Toxocara canis), hookworms (Ancylostoma spp.)
- Sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei)
- Demodectic mange (Demodex canis) — extended protocol as directed by a veterinarian
- Ectoparasites: mites and lice
- Maggot wound (myiasis) — as part of a veterinary treatment protocol
Dosage & Administration
- Administer orally, dosed strictly on the dog's body weight as prescribed by a veterinarian
- Confirm MDR1 status or breed suitability before the first dose
- Do not self-medicate or estimate the dose — Ivermectin has a narrow safety margin in susceptible dogs
- Complete the full treatment course and follow the prescribed interval for mange or heartworm protocols
