Alembic Docmycin 200mg Injection is a sterile, lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder for reconstitution and intravenous infusion, containing Doxycycline Hyclate USP 200mg per vial — the higher-strength veterinary IV formulation for larger breed dogs and cats, or for cases requiring accelerated therapeutic loading. This parenteral formulation of Doxycycline is indicated for serious and systemic bacterial infections in dogs and cats where oral Doxycycline therapy is not feasible due to vomiting, severe illness, hospitalisation, or the clinical requirement for immediate therapeutic plasma concentrations. The 200mg vial provides greater dosing flexibility for larger patients and reduces reconstitution steps in high-dose protocols. Active Ingredient & Formulation

• Doxycycline Hyclate USP 200mg — Sterile lyophilized powder: Each vial contains 200mg Doxycycline Hyclate (as Doxycycline Hyclate — the hydrochloride hemiethanol hemisolvate salt form selected for parenteral formulation due to superior aqueous solubility); the lyophilized powder is reconstituted with Sterile Water for Injection or 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, then further diluted in a compatible IV fluid (0.9% NaCl, 5% Dextrose in Water — D5W, or Lactated Ringer’s solution) to the appropriate infusion concentration before slow IV administration; the 200mg vial provides twice the active drug per vial compared to the 100mg formulation, suitable for medium and large breed dogs at standard Doxycycline dosing (5–10 mg/kg twice daily) and for cats at weight-appropriate doses confirmed by veterinarian; reconstitution and administration protocol must be confirmed with the treating veterinarian and followed precisely; do not administer as rapid IV bolus — high peak plasma concentrations from rapid infusion cause direct myocardial depression and vasodilation resulting in acute cardiovascular toxicity (hypotension, bradycardia, arrhythmia)

Mechanism of Action

Indications

• Severe or systemic tick-borne infections in dogs and cats — Ehrlichia canis (tick fever/canine monocytic ehrlichiosis), Anaplasma phagocytophilum (canine granulocytic anaplasmosis), Rickettsia spp. — in hospitalised patients unable to tolerate oral medication
• Severe leptospirosis (Leptospira interrogans) — parenteral Doxycycline for hospitalised patients with severe leptospiraemia, hepatic or renal involvement
• Serious bacterial infections in hospitalised dogs and cats (respiratory, urinary, skin and soft tissue) requiring parenteral antibiotic therapy
• Post-operative infection prophylaxis and treatment in hospitalised surgical patients
• IV-to-oral step-down: once the patient tolerates oral medication, transition to Alembic Docmycin oral tablets at the equivalent dose to complete the treatment course

Reconstitution & Administration Protocol

• Reconstitute with specified volume of Sterile Water for Injection or 0.9% NaCl as per veterinarian’s protocol — see package insert for reconstitution details
• Further dilute in compatible IV fluid (0.9% NaCl, D5W, or Lactated Ringer’s) to appropriate infusion concentration
• Administer by slow IV infusion over minimum 1–2 hours — never by rapid IV bolus or direct IV push
• Use aseptic technique throughout preparation and administration; prepare immediately before use; discard unused reconstituted solution
• Monitor patient during infusion for phlebitis at infusion site and cardiovascular adverse reactions

Contraindications & Safety

• IV infusion only — never by rapid bolus, IM, or SC injection
• Do not use in puppies under 6 months or pregnant/lactating females — Doxycycline chelates calcium in developing bone and dental matrix causing permanent discolouration (yellow-brown fluorescence under UV) and enamel hypoplasia; retards linear bone growth in growth plate cartilage
• Do not mix with calcium-containing IV fluids at high concentrations — calcium-Doxycycline chelation precipitates drug from solution; Lactated Ringer’s is generally compatible at low concentrations, confirm compatibility before use
• Phlebitis risk: Doxycycline is a venous irritant at high concentrations; ensure adequate dilution and slow infusion rate; monitor IV catheter site
• Use with caution in dogs and cats with hepatic impairment — biliary/faecal excretion is the primary route; hepatic disease may elevate plasma concentrations
• Store below 25°C; protect from light; keep in original packaging; do not use beyond expiry date on vial label
