Pros & What’s Good

  • High quality protein sources: multiple meats, fresh + meals, organs. Good for muscle maintenance.
  • Smaller kibble likely better for small breed dogs (easier to chew).
  • Grain-free, which helps dogs who are sensitive to grains or certain carbs.
  • Lots of variety in ingredients (fruits, vegetables, botanicals) which can provide antioxidants, fiber, micronutrients.
  • Meets nutritional standards (FEDIAF / AAFCO) for adult maintenance.

Things to Be Aware Of / Potential Downsides

  • Grain-free foods often use peas, lentils, legumes etc to replace grains/carbs. Some concern (from recent studies) that high legume content might be associated with heart issues (dilated cardiomyopathy, DCM) in some dogs. If your vet is monitoring heart health or you have a breed sensitive to such issues, it’s something to consider.
  • High protein/fat content → more calorie dense. Means portion size must be carefully managed, especially for less active dogs to avoid obesity.
  • Price tends to be higher than standard brands.
  • Some dogs may not tolerate extremely rich or varied protein mixes well (digestive upset during transition).
  • Ingredient sourcing and consistency can vary depending on region, batch etc.
