Product details

  • This is a complete dry pellet food formulated especially for young guinea pigs (under ~6 months), pregnant, or nursing adult guinea pigs.
  • Based primarily on alfalfa hay / alfalfa meal, which supports higher energy needs, more calcium, and more protein than adult guinea pig feeds.
  • Includes stabilized Vitamin C to compensate for guinea pigs’ inability to synthesize their own. This helps with immune support, skin health, etc.

Key Features & Benefits
  • High fiber from alfalfa base to support healthy digestion.
  • Higher protein and calcium content, suitable for growing bodies, bone & muscle development.
  • Uniform pellet form (versus mixes) to avoid selective eating – every pellet has balanced nutrients.
  • Free from artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.

Feeding Guidelines & Use
  • Use primarily for young guinea pigs (< 6 months), and also for pregnant or nursing animals. After ~6 months, usually switch to an adult guinea pig diet which is lower in calcium and protein (often Timothy‑based).
  • Pellets should be fed alongside unlimited grass hay (Timothy hay, orchard grass, etc.), even for young animals. Hay is essential for digestion, dental health, and behavioral enrichment.
  • Follow package instructions for portion size; adjust if animal is overweight or underweight. Gradual transition if switching diets.

Considerations
  • Because of its higher calcium content (due to alfalfa), this feed is not recommended long‑term for adult guinea pigs (over ~6 months) unless under special conditions. High calcium over long periods can contribute to urinary tract issues (stones, sludge) in susceptible individuals.
  • If feeding to an adult temporarily (for example leftover supply), monitor for signs like increased urination, cloudy or milky urine, discomfort. Then switch to adult feed as soon as feasible.
  • Store properly (cool, dry) to preserve Vitamin C content and avoid spoilage.

Urinary Health Note
Since you asked particularly about guinea pig food for urinary health, here’s how this product stacks up and what to watch:
  • Pros: Young guinea pigs have greater calcium needs, so the higher calcium in alfalfa‑based diets is appropriate early on. Also, stabilized Vitamin C helps with overall health, including immune system and potentially reducing infections.
  • Risk: Once guinea pigs mature, their calcium requirement drops. Excess dietary calcium (especially from alfalfa + supplements) can lead to build‑up in the urinary tract (stones, sludge). Also, hydration is key; ensure access to fresh water.
  • To support urinary health, pig owners often transition to lower‑calcium, grass‑hay or Timothy/Orchard hay‑based adult feeds, provide plenty of clean water, offer hay, avoid excessive alfalfa after maturity, and include vegetables that are safe in moderation.
